Alan O'Connor began his motorcycle-racing career at the tender age of 4, but it was in trail competitions that Alan spent his first few years.
He made his short circuit debut in 1998 on a pre 90 RGV 250cc Suzuki and changed to a Yamaha 125cc TZ for 1999 season on which he managed to finish 2nd in the Southern Centre Championship.
In 2000 Alan changed from the Yamaha to the much quicker Honda and went on to win the Southern Centre Championship that year. Alan also traveled to Wales for a New Era Championship meeting at which he won 6 races from 6 starts.
In 2001 Alan moved on to the Mick Padgett RS 125 again winning the Southern Centre Championship.
Alan joined EMS Racing for the 2002 championship to contest the Irish National Championship.
